Description
You are bidding on the above letter written and hand-signed by Colonel Emilio Avalos of the Cuban Liberation Army. I received it years ago at an estate sale in a lot with other antiques. It is very similar to the one being sold on HistoryForSale which is priced at around ,350. I have included a picture of their's from 1899, as well as their translation (of their letter
):
EMILIO AVALOS Y ACOSTA and PEDRO LLANES
The Colonel writes Chief Commander Pedro Llanes to certify the good conduct of Commandant Jose Lauvas y Osuna
Manuscript Document Signed: "
Emilio Avalos
" and "
Pedro Llanes
" in iron gall ink. 10x8.
Fully Translated in English:
"Emilio Avalos y Acosta, Colonel of the Liberation Army and First Chief of the Cavalry Regiment 'Habana'. I certify: that during the time Commandant Jose Lauvas y Osuna offered his services in this regiment he had the best behavior, showing great courage, intelligence and patriotism in the many war actions he took part of. And in order that this can be proved anytime, I issue this letter in P. y L. Quero on 3, 1899. The Colonel 1st Chief. Emilio Avalos. The Chief Commander Pedro Llanes."
Emilio Avalos y Acosta
was a liberal activist for the independence of Cuba who held the title of Colonel of the Liberation Army and 1st Chief of the Cavalry Regiment.
Pedro Llanes
was a liberal who fought for the Cuban Independence and held the title of Chief Commander.
The letter does have water damage in two areas (as can be seen in pics), but does not affect the actual handwriting. I will supplement the listing with better pics as well. Shipping to be free via USPS.
