    Description

This is a fragment of a letter that appears to have
    been written and signed by
    William Brough
    .
    William Brough
    (1826-1870) was an English author,
    actor, and dramatist.
His family is well known for
having produced many successful writers and
    actors.
    Brough
was best known for his satirical plays, as
    well as the family
friendly works he wrote for and
    with
    Thomas German Reed
    (1817-1888),
    a
    producer
    and composer in London
    .
This letter is not dated, but was likely written
    sometime between 1850 and 1870.
It is handwritten on a small piece of paper,
    about 4.5" by 3.5".
As best I can tell, the fragment of the letter reads as follows:
    dearest love with
    Your ever affec ly
    William Brough
    P.S. If I don't see you
    before Saturday next, I
shall be glad if you will
call at the club in the
    afternoon.
    NOTES
    (1) In the second line, the phrase "
    affec ly
    " is
    an abbreviation for the word
    affectionately
    .
    (2) The club referred to in the last sentence may be
    The Savage Club
    , a gentlemen's club in London,
which was co-founded by William Brough in 1857,
and which continues to this day.
    (3) Beneath the postscript, someone has written
    in pencil the words "
    William Brough, entertainer
    ".
    PLEASE NOTE
: I have not yet been able to locate
another William Brough signature with which to
compare this one, which is why I have stated in this
    listing that this is "
a fragment of a letter that
    appears
    to have been written
    and signed by
    William Brough".
If anyone reading this can inform me of
    where to
locate an image of a Willam Brough signature,
    I would appreciate
    hearing from them.
The letter fragment is in good condition, with some general wear.
