This listing is for a vintage Silvertone Bb tenor saxophone. Silvertone was the brand name used by Sears Roebuck for musical instruments. Obviously Sears did not make their own instruments though. This is a stencil, which was manufactured by Buescher. It is the same as the '
Elkhart by Buescher 30A' model.
The "Elkhart" was Buescher's second line, or intermediate level offering. I believe this horn dates to the 1940's, or 50's. The serial number is 80,xxx.
This instrument is in overall very good condition for its age. The body is straight, and the neck has not been pulled down. There are a number of minor dings and pings, mostly on the bow, but no significant dents. There is one re-soldered key guard foot that is a little ugly (see picture where I am pointing), but I don't see any other re-soldered joints. The keys are all operating smoothly with light action, and the rollers are turning freely. The lacquer is mostly intact, with normal light wear and scratches.
This sax is in excellent playing condition on older pads. I just gave it a "PC" (playing condition) repair job, in which any issues related to playability were addressed. I replaced a few pads and key corks, and did some other minor adjusting. It now plays great from top to bottom, as you can hear in the video demo linked below.

This horn comes with an unmarked vintage mouthpiece. It is not original to the horn though. It looks to be made of resin, rather than hard rubber or plastic. It is in good condition, with a smooth facing, and no tooth wear. It has been cleaned/sanitized. Also included are a cap, ligature, vintage leather neck strap, and end plug. The horn comes in its original case, which is well worn, but solid and functional. Some of the trim is coming off of the exterior. The interior is worn, but clean and odor free. The latches work properly.
