Vintage Miner Lamp Justrite Made in USA w/ Justrite Air Cooled Grip.
This is a vintage Justrite miner lamp. It comes with a grip that is also made by Justrite. The grip is in place to keep the miner's hand from burning when holding the lamp. It was made in the US. The lamp operates with water and calcium carbide. There is no light bulb or kerosene needed to power it. Water and calcium carbide are used to light this. The water drips onto the calcium carbide creating a gas reaction that then creates a flame to light up the lamp. The lamp would have been used in mines to provide a safe way of lighting the tunnel/cave.
Used as found condition, there are scratches and dents from use. It appears the the tank part is brass. It could likely be cleaned up but I didn’t want to disturb the patina.
