The signature sound of the Selmer Reference 54 alto is created when
it gets
blown
hard,
arising from t
he design of the bow section, which
develops a resistance that forces a more
focused and centered core. However, with insufficient breath to produce the flow to support
a steady column of air the bow's resistance can produce
a gurgle in the range between low C
and D.  Consequently, for
classical players who need to use a more restrictive mouthpiece
S
elmer developed the
Paris Concept that such players can adopt versus using Selmer's
more
open
S80 C* that is included with the horn. In its earlier generations fine adjusting
the horn's regulation
eliminated the gurgle effect, and since its debut in 2006
Selmer
has
twice refined the neck,
with the current model featuring a third generation neck.
