    Description

Here is a printed real photo postcard featuring characters in the Portola Festival of 1909 in San Francisco. The San Francisco Portola Festival was held October 19 - 23, 1909. It honored Don Gaspar de Portola, the discoverer of San Francisco Bay. It was also a celebration of a city which, just three years earlier, lay in ruins. The festival ran each subsequent year until 1913. Today, the Portola name is still featured on local streets, schools, a San Francisco District, and even the town of Portola Valley. Published by Pacific Novelty Co. Used and postmarked Oakland CA Nov 1909. Pen date on the front. Bottom right corner has a crease.
