Description
Real photo postcards showing damage & restoration after the SF earthquake in 1906.The "longways" card is a photo of Grant Avenue from Market, with the Hamman bath to the left. The card is about 5 1/2" long and just over 3 1/4" high. There are no creases, rips or tears, and the corners are intact. There are two spots on the lower edge where the finish has come off - see picture. The card is unused. One edge of the back is more yellowed than the rest, and there are some friction marks on the back. The card was apparently published by an LA firm.
The "up & down" card is
a photo of the restoration process of the Flood Building. The card is about 5 1/2" by just over 3 1/2" high. It was published in the San Francisco Examiner and meant for residents of the city to mail to their friends, to show the growth of the city after the devastating quake. There is light creasing around the edges, which are also slightly yellowed (see picture). The bottom short edge is cut, I think it was originally cut out of the Examiner (see picture). The card is unused.
