    Description

    This is a historical postcard issued by the American Italian General Relief Committee to solicit donations for the victims of the Messina, Italy Earthquake. The 1908 Messina earthquake occurred on 28 December in Sicily and Calabria, southern Italy with a moment magnitude of 7.1. The cities of Messina and Reggio Calabria were almost completely destroyed and between 75,000 and 82,000 lives were lost. The photos of T. Roosevelt, William Taft as the Red Cross President with King Emanuel & Queen Helena is on obverse as well as scenes of damage. This was used and mailed in 1909 (Connecticut).
