Please email with any questions. November 16, 1852 letter written from Carhart, Bro. & Co. in New York City to mercantile Carhart & Roff in Macon, Georgia. I think the northern and southern Carharts were brothers or cousins and a lot of business was conducted between the two firms. This letter starts very business-like with news that 17 boxes of adamantine candles were being shipping aboard the schooner "Stephen Taber". The letter also reads, "There is nothing doing today. Stores close at 12 for the Webster Obsequies. Broadway is draped with mourning emblems." A little postscript near the bottom reads that "Mrs C returned yesterday from NJ -all well.". Light blue paper has fold lines from its original mailing and that ink is slightly blurred near the top of the page.
