Description
This is a rare Mint condition (original lacquer) King 615 Tenor made during the brief period that the Conn Corporation owned King between 1983 and 1985. The typical King 615 model of the 80's era was a student model outfitted with nickel silver keys - this 615 is outfitted with intermediate/professional level solid brass keys that are lighter and more responsive (try and find a King 615 model like this from another seller on eBay, Reverb, or Google to see for yourself). This horn is an upgrade (faster/more responsive keys and higher quality materials) than the typical King 615 or the all popular Yamaha YTS-23 tenor.Being a perfectionist and a curious saxophone restorer, I enjoy disassembling saxophones and thoroughly restoring them to their best operating condition even if they come to me in Mint condition. This King 615 was no exception - it was put through my standard refresh/tune-up process - the photos tell the story.
Refreshment/Tune-up (July 2021) included:
1) Entire saxophone disassembled, sax body and neck ultrasonically cleaned with Tesch Classic Brass cleaning solution
2) Rods and brass keys cleaned and polished
3) Post screw and key hinge openings cleaned with pipe cleaners and given fresh Ultimax key oil
4) Springs inspected and cleaned
5) Eight pads replaced with MusicMedic dome resonator leather pads
6) Felt pads, cork pads, and neck cork replaced as needed
8) After reassembly - entire sax checked for leaks - pads/keys adjusted to ensure proper seating/sealing then the instrument was play tested.
With the Tesch ultrasonic cleaning, it is super clean inside and out.
This horn is very responsive - it plays as well as it looks!!
You would be hard pressed to find a better tenor saxophone in this condition from a vintage (made in USA) brand name manufacturer for 75. Comes with end plug, case, key and its original stock mouthpiece (like new - no ligature or cap). Given its age, a nice patina has developed on the body.
It is being sold "As Is" but very few sellers/restorers show listings with these types of detailed photos of all the work done. No need to guess the condition of the sax body under the keys, how the pads look, or the work that was performed. I am an experienced restorer and seller of saxophones with 100% Positive Feedback over the past 20 years on ebay. All of my previous saxophone buyers have been very pleased with their purchases (check my feedback). You will like this horn!!
