Frederick Augustus Genthe(1820-1893)
- German-American chemist; mineralogist; opened chemical laboratory in Philadelphia; professor University of PA 1872-88. He specialized in analytical chemistry & mineralogy and was the member of many scientific societies. He discovered 24 minerals - genthite named in his honor.

Rare autograph letter signed in ink, F. A. Genthe, July 12, 1861, Phila, 1 1/2pp octavo, to Prof. Benj Silliman, Jr. (1816-1885), Prof. Chem., Yale, journalist, chemist, son of Benjamin Silliman (1779-1864.)
Content, excerpts:
"The Harrisites etc for the Ducktown Mines are finished. I have six analyses containing from a fracture of one per cent of sulphide of lead to about 97."
"My analyses are now a positive proof to everybody, who choosed to doubt my previous conclusions, that I am right..."
"The Arsenides of Copper are not completed yet - 'tho there is not doubt that the three exist on Lake Superior...."
