Description
Here is a great 19th Century group of correspondence letters and stamped envelopes written to Major John W. Park; Confederate Officer in the War Between the Stagtes ... Civil War or as my Great Great Cousin Gerald referred to it as " Out Recent Disagreement With The North". During the Civil War he was a Major in the First Georgia Regiment. After the war he settled in Greenville Georgia in Meriwether County. John Park was one of the organizers of the Georgia Bar Association and one of it's Presidents. He was the foremost lawyer in the Coweta Circuit. He and his father Orville were prominent educators and one of the founders of Emory College and the LaGrange Female Institute. These letters give a glimpse into the post - Bellum years to the turn of the Century. Some of the letters in the large archive are from War Comrades ( not necessarily these ) and they run the gamut of legal work that Major Park did is his capacity as an attorney. Many of the envelopes have written notes regarding the contents or disposition of the work he did on the cases. The items in this lot are:1874 Letter & Envelope w/ notes from Sorrel & Co. of Griffin GA regarding a visit in the Fall to settle a legal matter
