    The Mark VI of Buffet...
This amazing Buffet-Crampon S1 Alto Saxophone is an absolutely incredible player in near-new / mint condition. Circa 1983, the S1 line of Buffet saxophones is known to be the epitome of Buffet's saxophone lines. This horn is from the end of the S1 run. Comparable to the Selmer Mark VI, the S1 series following the Super Dynaction horns that were of equal or greater notoriety. The S1 series made some major improvements to the SDA (Super Dynaction) line and made some unique and wonderful design changes to the low-Eb / C spatulas and the low-Bb spatula that are only found on the S models. The Buffet saxophone line is more known for it's classical music appeal, however many jazz greats played on Buffet horns, such as Albert Ayler and others.
This horn plays like a monster with that incredible 1960's / 1970's vintage sound. She feel and plays like some of the best Mark VIs I've ever played. Solid intonation, resonance and fullness throughout the range of the horn. Agile and very fast responsiveness with a dynamic sound, capable of fulfilling any horn players unique approach.
The pads, corks, felts & springs are all in very good condition. Horn has flat metal resonators throughout. You'll notice the notch cutout on the neck tenon. This is to accommodate the high-F# tone hole on the horn.
If you are interested a horn that is in every way comparable and in my opinion better in some cases to a Selmer Mark VI, this is a relatively rare and exceptional find, at a price well below the current market for Mark VIs.
I am a professional recording artist, endorsed with Selmer Paris / Conn-Selmer, Theo Wanne, Oleg Products, Silverstein Work and other manufacturers. I am a dealer with many of the afore, plus with BAM France Cases & ReedGeek. As a professional player, I can vouch for the excellence of this saxophone. This horn made me want to start playing alto again (I'm a tenor / soprano player...). If you have interest in hearing my music or knowing more about me, search Mark Fox Jazz and I'll come right up.
