Serial 567765, manufactured maybe early '80s. This one obviously spent some time in the cellar or a storage unit, and the case was eventually opened (not by me!) with a crowbar. So there is superficial corrosion and discoloration. But all the parts are there, all the keys work, none of the pivot rods are frozen. The only dent is one on the bow (see photo). I wouldn't have acquired it in the first place if it looked like it had been dropped, as shown by the all-too-common bashed-in bow. The neck cork was replaced (by me) and works well. Everything else, well . . . It plays, but the low notes are a struggle, so obviously some of the lower keys are leaking. The mouthpiece is a no-name item which originally came with the instrument. It has spectacular tooth wear on top. Not too many players are keen on steering clear of someone else's teeth, but most of us use our own mouthpieces anyway. The ligature is OK, nothing exotic.
The hardware on the case was shot, so I replaced the latches and handle with more heavy-duty versions. Now they're probably the sturdiest part of the case.
So, she isn't a derelict, but "as is" she's nothing great. I believe she can be spruced up nicely without any heroic efforts, but I have too many saxophones as is and I'm sure I'll never get around to this one. So, time for her to move on.
(Sorry, sax stand not included. I need that for the instruments I still have.)
