Description
Back on the market after buyer flaked outSelmer SBA Alto saxophone super action aka super balanced action. Condition is "Used".
Purchased used in 1956 from the original owner. Has the original case which is a Tri Pack (does not contain flute or clarinet though). No mouthpiece is included either
Full Disclosure. The bell is obviously engraved different from all other SBA’s. My guess is that someone had altered the logo to avoid import tax/duties from the London distributor and had the horn relacquered and overhauled in the states
From a reputable vintage saxophone source:
“OK, this is interesting. The Selmer log books show it shipping to “Mals Minger”. In French, mals means bad and Minger is a derogatory term for the English. It was shipped lacquered and engraved (verni grave in French).
So, Maybe whomever it was in France who wrote this one in the log books was having a little fun at the expense of the English by calling them mals Minger. Perhaps, the assembler/engraver was also in on the joke and gave it a goofy engraving. 🤪”
All that being said it’s a fantastic piece of Selmer history
It does play but you’ll want to have it overhauled by your tech to your liking since the pads haven’t been changed since the early 50’s
