1920's Martin Handcraft soprano saxophone. This is a stencil made by Martin, and stamped Concertone. It's also stamped Low Pitch, which allows it to play in tune with modern instruments. The keywork is decent for a nearly 100 year old horn. The palm keys tone holes are appropriately located on the side of the horn unlike Selmer Mark VI's which are drawn in line with the upper stack. There is no front F key, although the soprano is keyed up to high F. The G# is articulated, but cannot be activated by other LH pinky keys other than the G# itself (for example, on a modern saxophone, you can play G# using the low C# key if needed).
Now, on to the best aspect of this horn. This sax has an absolutely stunning voice that is thick and full, with unbelievable resonance. I've spoken to many players over the years who declare that 1920's Martin sopranos have the best sound of any vintage instrument. After playing on this horn for some time, I can't disagree. The sound is truly world class.
This sax was previously owned by a retired saxophonist from The President's Own Marine Band. He kept it in great playing condition. My tech just serviced the horn prior to sale, and the pads are sealing perfectly from top to bottom. They're a mix of new and old pads, but they all still have a lot of life left in them.
Buyers are free to return the sax for any reason, provided you pay shipping and insurance both ways. Returns are subject to a 3% restocking fee.
