1899 Letter Signed Evansville School Supt. W.A. Hester Simon Hecht B’nai Israel

For sale is an original vintage letter from 1899. It was sent by W.A. Hester, superintendent of the Evansville (Indiana) Board of Education and is signed by him in ink. The one-page typed letter was sent to Simon Hecht of Evansville, thanking him for his 25 years of service on the Board of Education. I believe this is the same Simon Hecht who became rabbi of B’nai Israel in Evansville in the mid-1860s. This letter measures 8 1/2 by 10 3/4 inches and was typed on Board of Education stationery. It is in fragile condition, showing several tears and a horizontal mailing crease. Dated June 6, 1899, it has been affixed formany years to a cardboard backing. This historically-significant document would be a wonderful addition to any collection of Evansville memorabilia. See my listings for other vintage items.
