Description
Before the day of carbon paper duplicates of letters were made by placing tissue paper over them absorbing the ink and making an exact copy of the letter. This tissue paper copy is a letter to the Post Master General of the U. S. recommending Samuel M. Lake to a position with the U. S. Postal System. It is signed by Thomas J. Brady, Second Asst. Post Master General. He had served in the 8th and 140th Indiana Regiment as a Colonel. He is also well known for being involved in the "Star Route Scandal" in which bribes were taken to get contracts with the Post Office. Shipping includes insurance.
