    Original letter written by Herman H. Heath, Major 7th Iowa Cavalry & Provost Marshal General to: General N.G. Baker, Adj. Gen'l. Iowa - May 25, 1864.  Saying Governor Stone left the state for the South.  He wants promotion for E.C. David, Post Master Dubuque as a Colonel of one of the 100 day regiments.
    The 7th Iowa Cavalry were sent to Nebraska Territory Garrison Posts to escort wagon trains, protect emigrants, guard lines of travel and telegraph.  They also had frequent battles with Indians.
