1851 Letter to Robert Bowne Minturn New York from Joshua Bates Boston in London

This is a nice, original 2 page hand written letter from Joshua Bates eventually of Boston who was currently in London addressed to Robert Bowne Minturn of the firm Grinnell & Minturn in New York City. In part he mentions the Great Exhibition going on and a bit concerning California gold. The market seems depressed for bar iron at the time.  Item measures approx 10" x 16" when completely opened. There is minimal surface, corner and edge wear. A small triangular piece cut out on one edge.
