    Description

September 15th, 1850 letter written by an unknown woman in Worcester, Massachusetts to her husband who had left for the Gold Rush in California. The letter is more of a poem, reflecting his wife's feelings on his journey West. Here are few excerpts:
"In search of these riches where honors are gold, Where sufferings are many, whose tale is untold, Oh how could you leave your dear native hills. The rivers, the valleys, the meadows, and fields, and cross the wide ocean, where billows do roll, In search of those riches whose honors are gold."
"Dear husband be faithful to children & wife, Guard ever thy person, thy health, & thy life."
At the end of the letter she writes a note that it was written about four months after her husband left for California.
    Approx. 6.25" x 7.5".
