    Description

Both letters have Philadelphia postal markings.
One has a dateline of Philad: May 6, 1844. This is a one page business letter from A. Peries.
The other has a dateline of Phila., Feby 15th 1854. One page of writing from Edwd H Wheeler.
From some on-line research: A. Peries was listed in an 1844 Phila. directory as a merchant.
In an 1854 Phila. directory there was an Edward H. Turner listed.
    Fun to research.
    Some abstracts:
[1854 letter] "... but I know differently, he received from one of the parties (with whom he was engaged in defrauding the Phila & R R rd co) ,000 as a compromise or rather a bribe not to testify against him should the Co put the affair in suit."
"Mary Esther and family are all well ..."
The letter has some wear / tear / stains. As usual with folded lettersheets, otherwise known as stampless letters, after writing on one or more sides of a sheet of paper, the letter was folded several times and mailed.
An interesting pair of old letters good for genealogy and history research. See my other auctions for similar items.
