    Description

Here's a folded stampless lettersheet / letter, with a circular date stamp of PHIL JAN 26, and is addressed to R[??] Boggs Esquire, N Brunswick. The dateline is Phila 26 Jan 1826, and is a one page letter written by Jos. Reed
The handwriting in this letter leaves a lot to be desired, it's difficult to decipher a lot of words. It will take some practice and patience to transcribe it.
The paper has a watermark of a bird on one side and 'Amies' on the other.
A check of an online Philadelphia city directory for 1825 lists Joseph Reeed as recorder of the city. He's the only Joseph Reed listed.
online articles: "Reed was Recorder of the city of Philadelphia, 1810–1829" and "Joseph Reed, the son of Gen. Joseph Reed, was born July 11, 1771 in Pennsylvania. He graduated from the College of New Jersey in 1792 and became a lawyer. He married Maria Ellis Watmough in 1805. He was the Pennsylvania Attorney General from 1810-1811.
He died on March 4, 1846 at the age of 73.
Docketing on a side fold (likely written by the addressee before the letter was filed away) says "Jos. Reed, will in a few days submit a distinct proposition."
    Some abstracts:
